It has now been the longest I’ve waited gone in-between posts in a long time. I want to apologize for being so quiet here lately. I am, however, not apologetic for the reason behind my silence. I have been overwhelmed by blessing lately and it has kind of been rocking my world. As promised, I wanted to talk to you all about some of the further fruitfulness that came out of the apple picking weekend. If you have guessed, I decided that an apple pie was just what the doctor ordered.
I don’t usually doa ton of baking. Mainly because I have no real clue about it. I just kind of make it up as I go. Last month a friend had a ton of peaches and gave us a huge bag of them. That inspired the creation of the most delicious pie – a combination of peaches and apples. It was ABSOLUTELY delicious. We dubbed it a Peach-lle pie. HOwever, this go around the focal point was the apples. Lets just say that the pie didn’t quite hit the mark.
This was mainly due to the fact that I had no clue what I was doing and coupled with my lack of a recipe or any real sense of what made the “Peach-lle” pie such a success.
Long story short -YUCK. Too much Nutmeg, not enough brown sugar, ????
I was disappointed and now I actually had two pies worth of this disaster as my confidence in delicious pie making was up after striking gold with my first attempt.
Here’s where redemption arrived. I was not content to call it a wash and toss the clear disaster of a dessert. I mean there must have been some way to make the best of it. …and BAM: strawberries and cream!
I found a batch of strawberries and some cream cheese frosting. Without delay I sliced those puppies up, arranged them delicately, but generously across the top of the pie and then added the frosting.
For ease of application and presentation I decided melting the frosting was a nice touch.
It reminds me of the beautiful work that Christ does in us. Despite our efforts and fabulous ingredients we don’t have a recipe for righteousness. We don’t have the ability to create something from our lives that can please God. Jesus pleases God on our behalf.
No amount of good deeds can turn our lives into an acceptable treat in God’s eyes. Jesus is way beyond a layer of strawberries and some cutely applied frosting. He doesn’t simply hide our sin from the eyes of God. He creates something new. COMPLETELY NEW.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
I was impressed with how I could make a horrible dessert into a delectable treat, but Jesus doesn’t simply improve, upgrade, and revamp….HE RECREATES.
Have you let Jesus recreate you yet?
