YOU are in DEMAND (4): No Lone Rangers

There is so much more to say on our purpose, finding it, and fulfilling it. However, I feel as though it is time to start landing this ship. Having discussed who you serve, who you are, and what to build, I now want to tackle a bit of the how to do it. In all honesty, this post will really discuss how NOT to build. The danger in me telling you how TO do this, is that there is no ONE way that I can explain to you how to do what God is telling you to do. He has very specific plans for you that differ from anyone else including me, as I am sure you are starting to realize. Therefore, I will not pretend to have the answer to that question, of how do I do it. The only truly consistent and reliable way to successfully navigate that question is to listen to God and do what He says.

What I can tell you is that you were not meant to do it all by yourself. God has built us for community. We were made for relationship. One reason, YOU ARE IN DEMAND is to be united with other persons to glorify Jesus in this earth.

Adam was made and he was shown to be best with help.

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18 NIV

Noah was given a radical and very specific calling but it included his entire family.

“But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark–you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.”  Genesis 6:18 NIV

Nehemiah’s plans were not done alone. The people all worked together in small units each building separate sections of the wall.

“So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.” Nehemiah 4:6 NIV

Each of these and countless more in history were leaders of families or teams of people. They were not lone rangers. God’s purposes are to bring men to his feet and unite them to bring more. If what you are being called to do has you working at it fearlessly in total isolation, you should question whether or not you stopped listening to the Lord’s commands a step too early. It is not impossible that you will begin your journey alone. Do not be afraid to be in lone opposition to the ways of the world. But if you have been working and working and feel near completion and have not brought others into your cause, or have not a one cheering you at least from the sidelines, I am not telling you to stop what you are doing, but I think it is definitely a sign to be sure that you are hearing clearly from God.

It is often more likely that He will have you uniting with others to get His purpose done than trying to completely go it alone.

“If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” Ecclesiastes 4:10 NIV

My last post of this series will talk about getting all of these thoughts out of your head and onto something useful.

Until then now that…

YOU ARE IN DEMAND, but not JUST YOU!

Now answer this:

What are some situations you remember being difficult until you found a friend to walk through them with you?
